Havre de Grace retired

It is with great disappointment that I have to announce that Havre de Grace has been retired.

After her work yesterday at Churchill, a little heat was noted in her right front ankle.  Still there this morning, Grace was sent to Rood & Riddle to be seen by Dr. Larry Bramlage.  Unfortunately, we didn’t get a positive prognosis for continuing her racing career.  Attached in the link below is a copy of the vet report from this morning.

Owning Grace through her racing career has been the highlight of my time in horse racing.  She was a wonderful, wonderful racehorse, and I feel confident she’ll be an equally wonderful broodmare.   Thanks, Grace, for all you gave us, and here’s to a long and enjoyable retirement.

I am absolutely heartbroken for you over Grace’s injury. At the same time I am deeply grateful that the problem was noticed immediately and that she will be completely able to recover. She is a magnificent animal, and I have no doubt that she will have outstanding babies. My thoughts are with you and Larry and all the wonderful people that have cared for her.

I am so sorry that Grace has been hurt.I am glad that she is in the best hands possible..We will miss her but she has more than proven her gameness and heart.Really glad she didn’t race because it may have been a little something there that couldn’t be seen so she is going to recover and that is the most important thing.Thank you for sharing her with us Mr. Porter! She will of course be the very best of broodmares..now she can pass her classiness to her kids!

Finally had a minute to relax and catch up on latest news. I am so, so sorry to hear about Grace’s injury. As Misha said, thank God it was discovered before something worse happened. We love her, always will, and look forward to little Graces!! Best of luck with the rest of the stable in the future. You never know!!

Rick, I share your pain and sorrow, though I know this is the only course of action to take, I will miss her dearly! You have always done what’s in the best interest of her, and this is just another fine example. Racing has suffered a major loss, but we have all the wonderful memories and races by Grace to draw upon and reflect on to get us through this dark hour. She not only went out as reigning HOY, but as a winner with her dazzling display in her debut race this year! Thank you for sharing Grace with us and for all the wonderful memories! Best of luck to her in the breeding shed! Hope she has an enjoyable as well as successful life in her new career. I am so hoping there will be a chance to meet her once again around this area. Hope you will consider this for all of her local fans! Take care. God bless FHF and God bless Grace!
