Update

We have been very active at Keeneland last week and today. We have purchased nine horses which gives us a total of twelve yearlings. We have eight fillies and four colts. This is not planned but we just found a lot more fillies that we liked than colts. It is possible that I will buy one or two more yearlings but that would be it. I am not going to purchase any two year olds.

These will all be kept at Candyland Farm and become Delaware certified. We are not sure where all the horses will be stabled next year. Larry and Steve Hobby are not sure where they are going to stable next spring. Delaware has developed a real shortage of quality horses which makes it difficult to get races filled with enough horses for the racing secretary to use the race. I am speaking about Maiden Special Weight and allownace races. If this is not rectified by next year, I think Larry and Steve will try to stable elsewhere. I would hate to leave Delaware Park after all these years. It is beautiful and has so many possibillities to be a much better race track with much better horses.

Havre de Grace worked just the way Larry wanted her to. She is very fit and this was just a strong gallop for her. Ronald Reagan worked very well as did Winslow Homer. Homer is ready to run as soon as we find a race for him. Brigade came out of his last race with some minor soreness in his shins which will be fine for his next start. He also needs blinkers badly. He was spooked by every horse that came up to him.

Barefoot Mailman is ready to run as is Coach. He is in a grass race this week but he is entered main track only. If they go on grass we are still looking for a race. Steve will probably have to run him at another track. Light Your World, Spin Zone, Brimstone Island are all doing well and are not far from running. Steve also has Spun Yarn and USS Constitution is back after spending some time with our horse whisperer. He had developed some bad habits but seems to be behaving himself since getting back to Steve.

Tres Chic is running tomorrow and looks like she will be very competitive in that race. Hard Line is coming along for Tom Iannotti.

Chad Brown is going to pick up the tempo of Picture Book’s training as she moves down to Belmont. Amazing Grace and Current Design arrived in Chad’s barn today.

Joyful Victory, The Thinker and Silk are all doing great at the Vinery and should be back in training around the first week in October. SGT Reckless and Navy Seal are not far behind them.

We are all looking forward to the Beldame on October 1st. I don’t have a handle on who will be running in the race but I should get a good idea by the end of this week. She is doing great.

Thanks very much to all of you fans and followers of Fox Hill Farm. It makes it so much more fun when you all get involved and make a lot of posts.

Rick

Thanks so much for your posts, too, Rick! It really helps us get a handle on what’s going on, instead of being left in the dark. :)

Glad to hear the ‘pups’ are all getting ready to hit the track. Should be an exciting fall season. The yearlings are just beautiful. Best of luck with them. It would be a shame to leave Delaware but it is what it is. You have to do what’s best for FHF and I think everyone who follows the website understands that. Lets hope it all works out for the best.
